SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle MGA Chapter held it's final tournament of 2009 with the heralded Last Gasp at West Seattle Golf Club. Matty Englesby made a statement in the last tourney of the season beating the field of 8 Medios with a 95 on a soggy golf course that had been flooded by wind and rain in the weeks leading up to the event. Since winning the tournament, Englesby is looking for a sponsorship from Vitamin Water, since it seemed to revitalize his game, and cure his wine hangover from the prior evenings events. This magical elixir, along with a consistent back nine propelled him to victory.
In second place was the favored Zack McInelly, who ended one stroke shy of victory shooting a 96. McInelly kept consistent with his game plan of lying to the other groups at the turn as to how he was playing, thinking this would somehow get into the heads of the other Medios. Mediocre he is, mental giant he is not.

Tom Smith, another winner on tour finished third shooting a 99. Nothing particularly stuck out with Smith's round on this Sunday, except for the fact that he decided to go with pants, sans soccer socks which have made him a trend setter at other events this season. Smith also received the Meltdown award as the only player to have a lousier back nine than his front, albeit only by one stroke.
In fourth was Aaron Regan shooting a 102. Regan's round included an impressive 10 on the very short par 4 second. Scotty Cameron bailed out Regan on many other holes which he one putted, but it was not enough to crack the top 3 finishers on the day.

Rob "the skin man" Skinner shot a 106, 20 strokes higher than his previous round played. Maybe it was the shear girth of his seriously thick beard might have thrown off his balance in his backswing. Regardless, it was a memorable round since it will be his last as a single man before his upcoming Vegas nuptials.

Mike "I want to be like Lanier" Davie finished where he always does, in the middle. He shot a 111 on the day landing himself the award that will almost be certainly renamed "The Davie" in the Puget Sound next year to reward his Mediocre genius play. More impressive than his consistency, was that he was able to share a cart the whole round with his playing partner McInelly. This husband and wife like duo, bicker constantly but from all accounts were able to keep things civil in the name of the MGA. Its good to see you two able to communicate so well, knowing how much love there is between you.
Jason "Da Plumba" Froula finished the day in 7th place with a 117. Although he claims to lay some serious pipe, on this day he layed a turd by his own admission. Not able to make the Vegas trip because of his family obligations, Froula will have the winter to swing the wrenches in preparation for what is sure to be a stellar second season in Seattle.

Finally, Joe "The Captain" Saarheim was rewarded with his first top 10 finish shooting a 134. New to the sport, Saarheim made a splash on the scene in 2009 by providing the MGAers with many memorable shots including his fairway wood shot on hole #9 that almost killed Regan but instead hit the back windshield of his cart which he occupied. In all fairness, he did warn Aaron that he was in the "kill zone" before firing. His top ten acceptance speech was so touching that the clubhouse bartender actually teared.....or maybe that was just his excess Old Spice aftershave that was wafting through the joint.
All that being said it was a great way to cap off a memorable first season in Seattle. The Seattle MGA will be represented by 7 Medios at the upcoming World Championships in Las Vegas Nevada.
