QCMGA runs first MGA event of 2010
Echos from the first Minside Open
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
It was really cold this last Saturday in Laval, QC for the Minside Open 2010, but six of us made it.
In the middle of this kinda boring winter that we got this season, nothing better than to invite medios from all over the Province to compete in the first inside competition in MGA history. This off-season tournament was played on simulators and allowed us to play the gorgeous Banff Spring Resort over here in the North-East.

Hitting a screen might sound lame, but it is really cool. For us at this time of the year, this is the only way to play golf after all. Playing 18 holes next to the bar and without a dress code is kinda awesome.

In the end Virtuo Golf is a great alternative for our frozen French Canadian asses. But once a year is enough, I don't even need to say that nobody asked for a membership at the indoor golf course.
Most of us haven't swung in months. For Billyocre, Steve and myself it was the first time since Vegas. That maybe explain my first five drives, sending all them into the right woods, averaging 23 yards. So a little adaptation was needed and we were into the Minside open.

Being stuck in the woods for 5 straight shot, putting off the green and hitting the ceiling were common actions at the Minside Open.
Top seed number 3 Smelly feet couldn't make it to Vegas last November but drove over 160 miles to join us, even having a flat tire on the highway 640. He changed the spare with his bare hands in very windy cold conditions. Giroux joined the tour at the Bratish Open last summer and he kept improving his score ever since. With a bit of ''Benoitism'' in him, we partied the night before the event and passed out in the early morning. Chris managed very well on how to swing into the large screen, shooting an impressive 4 mover and took home his first title of his smelling career. I won't mention other scores cause we were all far behind, but here's the final ranking,
1st Chris ''Smelly feet'' Giroux

2nd Steve ''Expensice black eye'' Pothier

3rd Billyocre & Dollar Draft

5th Sylvain Lesveque

6th Jeff ''Heavy Drinker'' Limoges

Billyocre did a really good job of throwing balls on my screen while I was in the middle of my backswing and then hitting the continue button to confirm a 12 yard chip, leaving 230 to the green.

But that is ok, he also found a real good medio in Sylvain, who won the Meltdown award on his first appearance.
Jeff now known as ''Heavy Drinker'' killed the pitcher of shitty beer that Steve bought for all of us.

The World championship and the fun we had there does have a great impact on recruiting new tour members. The adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" could be change for '' A picture of the WC is worth a few new medios'' we never know!
The 2010 season kickoff is coming soon and we are more than ready to hit real fairways with our new tour badges proudly installed on each bag. In order to make events even funnier, sponsorships are almost sealed with some cool companies, so that means there will be more crappy prizes donate to the players this year.
See you in March for the first event of the regular season!
